Honda CRX 1.6i-16 125hp – A TRUE BARN FIND

This first-generation CRX was launched in 1983. Initially equipped with a 1.5i engine producing 100hp, Honda—renowned for its engineering prowess—decided in 1986 to give it a sportier edge by introducing the 1.6i-16S engine, delivering 125hp. This particular example, from 1987—the final year of first-generation production—is fitted with that upgraded engine.

Thanks to its compact dimensions and lightweight body (only 920 kg), the CRX boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 7.36 kg/hp. Its performance is comparable to that of the legendary Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 with 130hp.

It’s worth noting that this CRX model hails from a golden era for Honda, when the brand was supplying engines to the likes of Senna, Piquet, and Mansell in Formula 1. In fact, 1987 was the year Honda won its first Constructors’ World Championship title.
